Majority of the parents have to deal with stressful circumstances when trying to persuade little ones to brush their teeth. That’s why it’s important to let them choose a fun and interesting toothbrush of their choice and providing the little ones with options is always better. As a result, you might even want to let them pick two or three because then you will give them the option of choosing a toothbrush when it comes to brushing their teeth.   Kids love games, so making the brushing experience a game will only make things much easier for you. Next time its brushing time, turn the radio on and dance your way to the bathroom sink with your kids. Finding ways to get them to brush and selecting the right kid’s toothbrush will make a huge difference in your child’s oral cavity health.

Some things to keep in mind when picking the right toothbrush:

  • Take into consideration your child’s age and the size of the toothbrush.
  • Do your research: Look for reviews that will guide you to the right kid’s toothbrush.
  • Check to see if the toothbrush has a website or any social networks to go to.
  • Try to look for one that displays you child’s favorite character.
  • Look for colorful toothbrushes that light up.

A toothbrush that they enjoy using will help them prevent plaque by taking care of their teeth. Everyone likes a beautiful smile on pictures, by taking your little ones to the dentist on a regular basis and by teaching them the right brushing habits you will help them achieve that smile. Also, make sure to change your kids and your toothbrush every three months which is the dentist recommended time.

In between school, homework, and after school activities kids grave something to snack on. Having munchies throughout the day is nothing out of the norm. In fact doctors and nutritionists recommend having snacks in between meals to prevent over eating during meal times. Besides meals, snacking is another way for you to make sure that your child is consuming the necessary nutrients to ensure a healthy lifestyle.  Now since snacks make up a significant part of a kids diet make sure you are giving them the right things to munch on. For starters, toss out the junk food and replace it with healthy food that in turn can supply them with ingredients that will provide them with energy throughout the day.

Here is a list of some healthy snacks for your child.

  • Grapes and cheddar cheese.
  • Whole grain cereal with or without milk.
  • Carrot sticks with bean dip.
  • Trail mix with nuts and raisins.
  • Celery sticks with peanut butter and topped with raisins.
  • Whole grain pita and hummus.

Make Snacking Fun All Over Again!

Give them healthy choices to choose from and let them decide what to snack on. Depriving them from choices will not work well so offer them with a variety of kid-friendly snacks. Also, remember to be creative and let them construct their own snack for the day. Kids love to dip so give them fruits and veggies to dip in hummus or any nutritious type of dip. You can also cut up their fruits into different shapes making them interesting to eat. As for dairy products, they are good but make sure they are low-fat or fat-free. Teaching your child to make healthy snack choices will help him or her ensure a healthy lifestyle.

Cavities, cavities, cavities, no one likes them and no one wants them. They can be very painful and might require a visit or two to the dentist. Some of you might ask what they are and how they come about. Well, cavities which are also called dental caries are the result of tooth decay or in other words a simple whole in your tooth. Plaque is the one to blame for since it’s mostly made up of germs that cause tooth decay. Acid is then produced through the bacteria in your mouth which can then eat the outermost layer which is the enamel and we of course don’t want that to happen.

Toothache might be experienced throughout advanced stages of tooth decay. As a result, we have to do our part and make sure our teeth and the little ones teeth are brushed and flossed. Eating the right foods is also helpful in trying to prevent cavities since sugar foods can make you more susceptible to them. We also have to keep in mind that cavities don’t only affect children but also adults.

But how can you tell if you have cavities or not? Well, that’s why regular visits to the dentist are highly recommended because you don’t want to wait for a toothache to stop by your dentist. Your dentist can discover cavities during a regular dental check-up. As a patient lets make sure they are never discovered by keeping a healthy mouth and brushing our teeth on a regular basis at least twice a day.  Lets not make our mouth a home for cavities.

Goodies of all sorts can be tempting especially for kids but dentist bills can be very expensive also. Most parents dread to look into their child’s backpack when they get home from school on Valentine’s Day. Only because they fear that they will see a load of candies and sweets of all kinds that could in turn cause cavities. Usually the kinds of treats that are found are chewy, sticky, and often high in sugar. Not only can sugar cause tooth decay but also obesity and diabetes if not consumed moderately and of course we all know sugar can get anyone hyper.

We all need to remember that candies are a treat not a meal. So having a goody here and there is not always bad. The best times to enjoy a candy of their choice is right after having a meal since that’s when the mouth produces the most saliva. And saliva is a good thing since it will help wash away large amounts of sugar that will accumulate in their mouth after having such treat. So when you get that big bag of Valentine’s candy don’t be afraid to treat them to a goody after dinner or lunch but it wouldn’t be a good idea to do it all the time. Always remember that brushing their teeth especially after treats is highly important since no one wants expensive dental bills. Happy Valentine’s Day and make sure your little one brushes!

Good healthy habits should be taught at an early age. Your child’s health should be your first priority and teaching them how to brush and keep a healthy mouth should be a fun process.

Many parents ask themselves when they should began brushing their little ones teeth. Well, as soon as you notice that your child’s teeth are coming out you should probably start cleaning them with a wash cloth until they are old enough to use a toothbrush. Also, an early visit to the dentist would be a great way to teach your little one the importance of good oral hygiene and the steps that need to be taken in order to maintain a healthy mouth free of cavities. A few parents often consider their child’s teeth unimportant since they will soon fall out in order for the second and last set of teeth to grow in. However, the habits they learn now will be carried throughout their life; therefore, good habits should be taught regardless if it’s only their baby teeth. As a parent you are the first one to set an example for them.

If you set a good example your children will follow. Regular dental check ups are a must and brushing at least twice a day and in addition to that flossing. It is recommended that children began flossing at age 3 or 4 and always with the presence of an adult to make sure that it is done correctly. When it comes to selecting toothpaste, you have the option of choosing one with or without fluoride.

To make sure your little one is brushing correctly it is recommended to brush with him or her.

Kids love sweets and they enjoy having snacks, but sometimes the snacks they have are not the healthiest. Try to select healthy goodies that contain very low sugar or none at all. Sugar can have a major impact on everyone’s teeth and cavities are the result of that. After the consumption of such treats, the attacks of sugar can last up to 20 minutes. A better alternative for snacks would be dairy products since they’re a good source of calcium for bones and teeth. Yogurt, cheese sticks, and milk are good sources of calcium. Strong healthy teeth help you chew all sorts of foods that are necessary for a healthy body. As a result, good oral hygiene is always required in where flossing should be done on a daily basis. Those who don’t floss are not cleaning at least 35% of their teeth, that’s why flossing is essential because it helps clean the places that toothbrushes can’t reach. Overall, next time you’re in the snack isle try grab snacks that are low in sugar or have no sugar at all.

Children often have bad tooth brushing habits that in turn will only deteriorate their teeth little by little. In order to make good habits the bad ones have to be broken. This might take time and it probably will not be easy but it is definitely possible. As a parent you are a child’s number one role model, so a good example has to be set and it all starts at home.

Dentist often use the term “bottle mouth” to identify children who are given a bottle during bed time. Parents might think that they are doing a good thing by providing their little one with something to drink before going to bed, but in reality they are not. If thirsty before going to bed the best thing to drink would be water. Bad habits have to be broken gradually, so if a child needs a bottle during bed time in order fall asleep it needs to be taken away slowly. Children like to have control, so let them decide what days out of the week they want a bottle and gently decrease the amount of days as time goes on.

Kids have the tendency of using large amounts of toothpaste while brushing their teeth, when all they need is a pea size amount. A great way to teach them how to brush correctly is by demonstration. As a result, next time you brush your teeth have your child observe you or maybe brush with you. Reading children’s books to him or her about brushing your teeth is another great strategy in situations like these.

We all know that sometimes getting them to brush their teeth is the hardest part. Like mentioned before, giving them control is key. Purchase several toothbrushes with their favorite characters or maybe some that they might find interesting. Then give them the option of choosing a toothbrush to brush their teeth with. Not only will you give them control by letting them select a toothbrush but you will also make the act of brushing your teeth fun by providing them with something cool to brush their teeth with. Breaking bad habits to build good ones can be difficult but is definitely possible.

Brushing their teeth on a regular basis can decrease their chances of getting cavities and help promote a healthier and stunning smile. However, its easier said than done since getting the little ones to brush their teeth can be a pain on the neck. Mornings and bed times are often filled with children crying and running away from mom or dad who may happen to be chasing them with a toothbrush in their hand. Yeah, it doesn’t sound like a walk in the park but it has to be done. Not brushing at least twice a day can often cause cavities which are the results of a bacterial infection. In most cases they will cause unbearable pain and suffering in children, that’s why parents continue to chase after their little ones. For kids, brushing their teeth is often defined as boring and not fun. A cool toothbrush that has character to it and that stands out to kids, may help make mornings and bedtimes a lot better for everyone.

(Buena Park, CA – January 7, 2011) – Dr. Fresh’s® popular FireFly® children’s toothbrush and its licensed counterparts – Barbie, Spider-Man, Hot Wheels, Hello Kitty and Peanuts toothbrushes – have been awarded the prestigious American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Acceptance. The Seal indicates a product has undergone a rigorous screening process to meet the ADA’s criteria for safety and efficacy, and that packaging and advertising claims are scientifically supported.

“This is the highest recognition an oral care product can receive, and a wonderful testament to the FireFly brand’s leadership in the children’s dental care category,” states Puneet Nanda, founder and CEO of Dr. Fresh, Inc. “The Seal reaffirms that consumers can purchase these products with complete confidence, and also serves as a powerful selling tool for our retail partners.” Nanda notes that the Seal will immediately be incorporated into packaging and prominently displayed on shelf.

FireFly and its licensed character and cartoon cousins employ an innovative, proprietary light-up timer technology to encourage compliance and develop good oral hygiene habits for life in young children, fighting the epidemic of early childhood cavities.   Colorful, sparkly and engaging, each toothbrush lights up at the touch of a button and flashes for 60 seconds, the length of time dentists agree is required to thoroughly brush one row of teeth, upper or lower. After the flashing stops, the user simply re-activates the button and moves on to the remaining row of teeth. The brushes also feature soft, rounded bristles that are gentle to young gums, and ergonomic designs appropriate to children’s small hands. They are priced from .98 to $3.00.
