4 to 24 Months Old Toothbrush Recommendations

Teeth should be cleaned as soon as they emerge. As long as teeth are present, tooth decay is a concern. Sometimes brushing and flossing a child's teeth can be a battle of wills. Baby teeth play a very important role in child development and they should be given proper attention and care.

By starting early, your baby also gets used to the daily routine.  Simple brushing tips and considerations include:

  • Choose a small, child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush, like the Baby Firefly. Soaking the brush in warm water for a few minutes before brushing can soften the bristles even more.
  • Dentists recommend using only non-fluoride toothpaste for brushing up to the age of 2. This is because young children tend to swallow toothpaste and swallowing too much fluoride can lead to tooth discoloration in permanent teeth. You only need to use a small smear of toothpaste on the brush.
  • Brush your child's teeth twice a day, once in the morning and just before bed. Replace the toothbrush every 3 months, or even sooner if it shows signs of wear. Never share toothbrushes between children.
  • Start flossing your child's teeth once a day as soon as two teeth emerge that touch.
