2 to 4 Year Old Toothbrush Recommendations

Children at this age are usually hesitant to brush their teeth. However, this is one of the most vital stages of tooth development. If not taken care of properly, decay and early loss of baby teeth can occur. This can lead to future problems with chewing, speech development and growth of permanent teeth. To keep your child’s teeth healthy, developing a fun and consistent routine is key. One way to do this is to use the Firefly ® Float’N Firefly.

By starting early, your child will get used to the daily routine.  Simple brushing tips and considerations include:

  • Choose a small, child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush, like the Firefly ® Float’N Firefly. Soaking the brush in warm water for a few minutes before brushing can soften the bristles even more.
  • Fluoride toothpaste can now be used on your child’s teeth. Swallowing too much fluoride can result in white spots on their permanent teeth. To prevent this from happening, be sure to use a pea size amount of toothpaste and teach them to spit out the toothpaste and rinse their mouth after brushing.
  • Brush your child's teeth twice a day, once in the morning and just before bed. Replace the toothbrush every 3 months, or even sooner if it shows signs of wear. Never share toothbrushes between children.
  • Start flossing your child's teeth once a day between any two teeth that touch.
